South Bend, IN

Well, there is just too much to talk about. First, you have to realize that I have the strangest job in the world. I go to the most random areas of the country, hang out at gay bars, give out free shit…and get people to sign postcards all night…and I mean all night. I think got to bed around 6am last “night” with the time change and all. Damn daylight savings.

So, this time around I was in South Bend, IN. I didn’t think it was going to be much different than Jackson, MS—oh, but I was wrong. It was much colder and people were just…dumb? I don’t really know how to describe it. There were multiple times that people came up to my table who couldn’t read or write. It was actually kind of sad.  I tried to help them out a little…but sometimes it was just too loud to give them the kind of support they needed. Maybe I had lower expectations for the south (aka. Jackson) and I assumed they would fit into the stereotype, but again…I was wrong.

The people in Jackson were actually extremely nice—not that they weren’t in South Bend, but just “average.” It seemed that everyone in Jackson wanted to be my best friend, which is always uplifting.

The hotel I stayed at in South Bend was significantly nicer than Jackson, but it did lack the full kitchen.
